If you want to host a Website, a FTP server or a Game sever on your own Computer or maybe you want to set up a Remote Desktop connection to other computer, you have to require a static IP address for setting up a DNS that allows you to translate your IP address into Domain Name, and vice-versa. Domain Names are comparatively easy to remember, and also they are important for hosting a website or a FTP server.
But if you have a broadband connection that does not have the static IP, and that constantly change after every reboot or after some time interval, then it is hard to keep the DNS settings with dynamic IP, because you have to require change your IP which is assigned with DNS, every time when your IP will change.
Dynamic DNS ( DDNS ) could solve your problem by automatically update your dynamic IP which is assigned with your DNS settings, so your DNS name ( such as “www.your-domain-name.com”) will never change even after your dynamic IP will changing frequently.
Personally, I have been using DDNS service on my DD-WRT router, to control my router’s web-interface and a download server. DDNS allows me to control my download server, even when I’m not connected to my local area network. Some of DD-WRT users are using this DDNS feature for Wake-on-LAN and other task which is mainly done by the router’s web interface.
Here I’m going to show you today, how to set up DDNS on DD-WRT Router in some simple steps!
Create a Free Dynamic DNS (DDNS) Account
First you have required a free DDNS account, so first you have to create an account on DDNS Service provider’s website,
Personally, I have used freedns.afraid.org for DDNS Service.
Step 1Create an account on freedns.afraid.org
Step 2Create Sub Domain Name
Step 3Setup a Dynamic DNS
Click on Direct URL and then Copy your Host Name from Net Tab’s URL
Here, “temp.mooo.com” is a Domain Name & “S2k……..Mjq0” is a Host Name
Now, You have all the information such as User Name, Password, Domain Name and Host Name which are required for DD-WRT DDNS Setup.
